Do you have a favorite quote that you return to again and again? What is it, and why does it move you? – Daily Prompt
The first quotation that came to mind for me was “Life is like a box of chocolates”. Anyone who has seen Forrest Gump knows exactly where that quote comes from. The quote means that you never know what life is going to bring your way. Just like when you go to bite into a chocolate candy out of a box of chocolates, or at least I never do.
My wife apparently could tell you. Every year my wife and I get a box of Esther Price chocolates for Christmas. She always tells me to not eat her favorite piece. Which would be perfectly fine IF I knew what was in each piece of chocolate! But since I don’t I just think that is an absolutely unfair request.
But as I thought more about the quote and why it moves me, I didn’t really have a reason for it moving me. I think it’s definitely true but it doesn’t really change who I am or how I live life. It’s just something fun to say.
So I thought more about other quotes I might like that might affect my life more. And I came back to a phrase our pastor uses in his sermons from time to time. He has a phrase which is “Faith is caught, not taught.”
I love this quote. I believe it to be absolutely true. Even before I heard his quote I believed that setting an example of living my faith would mean a whole lot more to my daughter than just trying to teach her faith. I thought the quote was a simple way to remember it. It is a philosophy I try to follow in every situation.
If you think about, teaching about faith is no different then teaching about our history, the Romans, Greek mythology, or anything else you can come up with. Sure, you learn about it and what it’s about. But just because we learn what it’s about it does not automatically equate into putting what we have learned into practice. By living your faith, it becomes contagious. Especially in the young formative years of a child’s life. They also get involved with you by helping you live that faith and that therefore becomes a habit that hopefully will stick with them throughout their life.

If I am drawn to another belief system does that make me less a Christian?
I suppose what it means to say you are drawn.
If simply by curiousity to know what that religion believes or follows, then no I would say it does not. I think curiousity could be a good thing. If the world took the time to understand other religions there would be a lot less wars started over religion. We would be better able to tolerate different religious views.
If you mean you are drawn to practice those beliefs and traditions over practicing that of Christianity then yes I would have to say it would.
