The Story of Your Life

If you could read a book containing all that has happened and will ever happen in your life, would you? If you choose to read it, you must read it cover to cover. – Daily Prompt

This is a tough question. On the one hand, the idea of looking back at everything that has ever happened would be a fun reminder of all the fun things that have happened in your past. It would provide a reminder that some of the bad things that happened ended up turning into good things even though they did not seem to be at the time.

On the other hand, seeing the things that have not yet occurred but where still going to happen. There would be things that are coming up which are not necessarily good things. They could cause you to have anxiety about the things that were coming up. Kind of like a root canal you know is coming. You dread it and can think of nothing else.

Because of this you may not enjoy the happy times as much as you would if you were not dreading the things to come. You may even try to change your life events by not doing something which you think would prevent you from being led to these negative events in your life. You may become so preoccupied with things that are going to happen to you or your loved ones that you forgot to live life and enjoy life.

Ultimately, I think if I was presented with this choice I would pass on the opportunity. Just because events happen in life that are unexpected, they are not always negative events. You would lose the ability to have those pleasant surprises in life which bring so much joy since they would no longer be surprises. And since the story of your life had already been written, it would do no good to try and change the outcome. So I don’t see the benefit of knowing what is going to happen in the future, only the downfalls.

Would you want to read the story of your life cover to cover?
