So my three free association words were love, dirt, and wet. Hence the title Love Wets the Dirt.
Love in an amazing and powerful thing. It can clean the dirt off, it can turn the dirt into a fertile growing medium, and it is something we all have that we can freely give and share to make the world a much better place.
Love can help clean the dirt off of us when we have made mistakes or not lived up to our obligations. We may have wronged a person, but when they show us the love of forgiveness the dirt is loosened. Is it gone totally? No. We still have to do some work on our own to completely rid ourselves of it. But it is a step in the right direction.
Same with God and his love for us. We all sin. Yet because of his love he provides us grace to overcome those sins. His love is what caused him to send his only son to die for our sins. That love is a wonderful thing, but in itself it is not powerful enough to rid us of the dirt that is our sins. But the love does give us the ability to loosen those sins from us. We still have to take action to try and avoid committing those same sins over and over again.
Dirt does not necessarily have to be a negative thing. It can be a positive thing as well. The dirt we find in flower pots and flower beds allow beautiful flowers to grow and show their beauty.
When we take time to show love to others, we are helping them grow. This can be as simple as providing a smile or a hug to a loved one when they are having a rough day. It can be providing a helping hand to someone who is struggling to accomplish something. Simply providing positive words of encouragement when someone is struggling with a difficult task or something they feel they can not do.
When we take time to show that act of love to someone else, take time out of our busy schedule to help someone else feel better we help them grow. We help them feel important, feel as if they are cared about and loved. When you think back to the people who are most influential in your life, what was the thing that made them so important? They took the time to show you they cared and they loved you.
By us showing love to others, we are wetting the dirt they grow in. We are encouraging them and allowing them to grow into something more beautiful and important.
You know what I think is the most amazing thing about love? That we all can share this love and use this powerful tool. Whether we are 4 years old or 104 years old. Whether we are male or female. Whether we are a millionaire or homeless. We all have the power to share a little bit of love with the people that come into our life and our path each day.
We have the power to loosen the dirt on others. We have the power to make that dirt fertile and allow amazing, beautiful individuals to grow and flourish in the dirt. How much greater a place the world would be if we all used this power to it’s full potential.
Have you taken the opportunity to share that powerful tool with someone today?
